BOWLING CLUB COMPETITION ENTRIES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The match committee of the Carterton Bowling Club has posted notices on the board at the pavilion regarding champion rinks, pairs, singles and other club competitions, entries for which .will close on Saturday, November X. The committee would appreciate members making their entries as early as possible. After November 15 the games and players will be arranged. Personal Items. ■ Dr. D. G. Johnston, of Sumner, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday. Mr Gordon Hugh’an met with a very painful accident on Monday. He was cutting firewood when the axe struck the wall of a building and rebounded on to the back of his left hand causing a severe cut, which necessitated six stitches being inserted by Dr. Wells. Dance at Belvedere. A dance in aid of the funds to provide soldiers’ comforts will be held in the Belvedere Schoolroom on Friday evening. Opportunity will be taken to farewell Mr and Mrs Torrey and family, who are leaving the district to reside at Linton, where Mr Torrey has accepted a position as manager of a privately-owned cheese factory. Mr Torrey has been first assistant at Belvedere cheese factory for many years. “Parcel Evening.”. A “parcel evening” and dance will be held in the Dalefield Hall on Saturday night in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Isabel Hooper. Mrs Ashton’s orchestra will supply the music. , Air Raid Precautions. The first of a series of six lectures on air raid precautions held at the Dalefield Dairy Company’s Board Room, Carterton, last evening was attended by 42 persons. Miss Rui Van Staveren (Wellington) official lecturer for the Red Cross Society, gave an interesting address, pointing out that every citizen should know the procedure in the event of gas attacks. Any adult may attend these lectures on the payment of 2s 6d.
