FOUND BY BRITISH PLANES IN MEDITERRANEAN DAMAGE DONE IN LIBYA & SICILY. ENEMY NIGHT FIGHTER SHOT DOWN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This' Day, 10.40 a.m.) RUGBY, November 4. A. R.A.F. Middle East communique states: “A successful raid was made on an enemy aerodrome at Castle Benito, south of Tripoli, by R.A.F. bomber air craft, during the night of November 2. Twelve enemy aircraft on the ground were set ablaze and fires were started among hangars and administrative buildings. 1 Direct hits were obtained on workshops and an ammunition dump and two petrol trailers were destroyed. The landing ground and dispersal areas were machine-gunned from a low level and clouds of black smoke from the burning aircraft rose many hundred feet into the air. An enemy night fighter, which attempted to engage our aircraft, was shot down in flames. “A sulphur factory at Licata, in Sicily, was again raided by naval aircraft during the night of November 2 and hits were scored on the factory. “The wireless station at Cape Passero was machine-gunned on November 2 and further machine-gun attacks were carried out on the following day on goods trains at Noto and Rosolini. “From these and other operations two of our aircraft are missing.”
