The Hon. Adam Hamilton, member of the War Cabinet, left for the south by last night’s inter-island steamer express. The Rev. C. J. G. Samuda, vicar of Johnsonville, has been appointed vicar of Mangaweka, in place of the Rev. C. F. Webster, who has joined the Royal New Zealand Navy as a chaplain. The Rev. G. Goring, minister of the Thames Baptist Church, has accepted a unanimous call from the congregation of the Caversham Baptist Church, Dunedin. Mr Goring is well known in Wanganui and Auckland. Well known as a leader of the Maori race, and widely recognised as one who contributed greatly to the welfare of his people, Mr Whenuakura Homene Nikera, Waipatu Pa, Hastings, died on Monday night at the age of 68 years. The death has occurred of Captain Alexandei- Innis Murray, agqfl 82, says a Dunedin Press Association message. He was a well-known master in New Zealand waters, and was chief officer of the ship Dunedin, which carried the first consignment of frozen meat to England. His first command was in 1890, when he was appointed to the Akaroa, a four-masted barque of 1000 tons.
