PARK CLUB TROPHY COMPETITIONS. CHALLENGE BY “THE BREATHERS” Although to date the weather has been anything but ideal for bowling, much Interest has been shown in the competitions for the Keetley Medals, McEwen Ferns and Craft Medals. There are several challenges on the board for each of these trophies and players are urged to complete their games as soon as possible. During the past week, two games were played for the Ferns, which have been held by A. Osborne (s) for two seasons. On Tuesday, C. Moore and A. Osborne (s) staved off a challenge by E. Brown and H. Carr (s) by 21-16, but were defeated later in the, week by P. Trevorrow and A. Kilgour (s), 18-13. On Saturday the club was .represented at the official opening of both the Greytown and the Eketahuna greens, and players who paid these visits are enthusiastic about the hospitality they received, and the keenness of the bowlers in both places. With the able leadership of their president, Mr Williams, who is, by the way, a formei' Carterton player, the membership of the Eketahuna Club has risen from 20, two years ago. to 60 active players. The mid-week players, often termed “The Breathers,” have challenged the “Rest,” and should their proposal to play the games next Saturday mature, some very keen tussels should take place. There is every indication that the match committee will agree, so “The Breathers” will need to get in all the practice they can during the week. It is to be hoped the weather will be kind to them. MASTERTON CLUB MANY NEW MEMBERS ON GREEN. COMPETITIONS TO START * SHORTLY. (Notes by “THE BOWLER.”) On Saturday last the Masterton Club’s green was well patronised. I was pleased to see a number of new members taking part in the game. The club competitions will start shortly, and members are asked to make their entries without delay, as these entries will close on Wednesday afternoon next.
