AN INCREASE
TOTALISATOR INVESTMENTS. Investments totalling well over £500,000 were put through the totalisators at the nine race meetings held in the Dominion over the long Labour Day weekend. Compared with last year there was an increase of £87,376 10s, this year’s total being £548,001. Last year £460,625 10s was wagered on the three days’ racing. The weather and other factors influenced the results. The holding of the Wellington Racing Club’s third day on the holiday, instead of on a week-day as last year, made a difference of £50,305 on the one day. The Waikato Hunt meeting at Cambridge showed investments totalling £41,052 10s, an increase of £12,361 10s on last year, when very heavy rain fell. Decreases were shown at only two meetings, those of the Waverley Racing Club and the Poverty Bay Turf Club. A record turnover for the meeting was shown by the Greymouth Trotting Club, the figure of £30,475 lOsJpeing an increase of £3604 10s on the*! 940 result.
