PROTEST TO JAPAN

MADE BY UNITED STATES.’ ATTACK ON MARINE SENTRY IN PEKING. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) PEKING, October 28. The American authorities have protested to the Japanese Government against the shooting of a United States marine and demanded strong measures against the assailant. The marine, who was on sentry duty at the main gate of the American Embassy, suffered a flesh wound when an unidentified Oriental, in civilian clothes, fired four pistol shots at him from behind. A Domei news agency report said that the assailant was “a Chinese gunman” who escaped.
