NAZI FANFARE

GREAT SUCCESS CLAIMED IN CRIMEA SOVIET TROOPS FIGHTING LIKE TIGERS. TO RESTORE SITUATION ON ISTHMUS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 29. A German communique, which Berlin radio reported with a fanfare of trumpets, declares that German infantry divisions, with the co-operation of the Luftwaffe, have forced an entry into the Crimean Peninsula after a 10 days’ battle. The pursuit of the defeated enemy had begun. There is no confirmation of this claim, but a London commentator says it is believed from reports that there has been some considerable penetration into the defences. The Russians admit the seriousness of the position on the isthmus, and they are fighting like tigers to restore the situation.
