A Middle East R.A.F. communique states: “Heavy bombers on the night of October 26 effectively raided Benghazi harbour, bombs bursting on the Cathedral mole and on objectives in the town. Yesterday the harbour was again attacked by the South African Air Force. Bombs fell near railway sidings at the Governorate, while others straddled workshops and railway installations. Fires broke out in the workshops. Military buildings were also hit. “Anti-aircraft and coastal defence guns at Bardia were attacked by naval aircraft on the night of October 25, while during the following night naval aircraft bombed store dumps near the Gambit landing ground. These dumps were again raided by medium bombers of the R.A.F. yesterday. “Motor transport on the coastal road of the Gulf of Sirte was heavily mach-ine-gunned. “In southern Italy yesterday, R.A.F. medium bombers attacked a goods train near Cotrone and blew it 1 up. The railway station and a railway bridge in the vicinity sustained direct hits. “From these and other operations all our planes returned safely.”
