EARLY CONCLUSION
SOUGHT BY JAPAN IN TALKS WITH UNITED STATES. OPINION IN WASHINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) NEW YORK, October 28. It is learned reliably by the “Herald Tribune” that the Japanese Government has served notice on the United States -that if any accord is to come from the negotiations between the two countries it must be reached before November 15, when the Diet will be convened in Tokio. The “Herald Tribune” adds that if no agreement is reached, the To jo Government is expected to renew formally its pledge of allegiance to the Axis. It would not surprise Washington if this were to be the signal for a renewal of Japanese aggression either in Siberia or the Southern Pacific. The present indications in Washington are that the prospects of an agreement are only slim. TROUBLE TACTICS SUSPICIONS OF PENDING APPOINTMENT. ENTERTAINED IN BATAVIA. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) BATAVIA, October 28. It is reliably learned that the Japanese Government may soon recall Mr Ishizawa, the present Japanese Con-sul-General and replace him by Mr Shunsuke Asada, who is at present Japanese Consul-General at Bangkok. He is a well-known trouble-maker and reliable sources are of opinion that such an appointment would not be greeted enthusiastically here and might indicate that the Japanese Government was looking for new incidents. VICHY REPORT MOVEMENT OF JAPANESE WARSHIPS. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, October 28. The Vichy radio states that units of the Japanese Navy have left Foochow for an unknown destination.
