LAMBOURN WINS HARCOURT ST A l< ES.

RECORD TOTALISATOR TAKINGS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, This Day. The attendance of the Wellington Racing Club’s spring meeting at Trentham yesterday was the largest of any spring fixture. The toialisator turnover .for the three days was a spring record.

Racing was again of a very high standard. The feature event, the Harcourt Stakes, was won by Lambourn, and the principal handicaps, the Pearce and the Nainai, were won respectively by Kentucky and Boswell. Astral Flame won the Roosevelt Steeplechase, which was another fine spectacle for the public. The weather was fine but overcast, with a cold westerly wind and, contrary to expectations, there was very little drying of the going, which was always soft and slow. As was only to be expected with a holiday to contrast with a weekday last year, when it was impossible to race on Labour Day because of the weather, there was a very substantial increase in the turnover for the day. The total was £109,779 10s, an increase for the day of no less than £50,305. The grand total for the three days was £253,990 10s against £190,065, an increase for the meeting of £63,925 10s. W. J. Broughton, leading jockey, was suspended for three months for careless riding, causing interference. The race in which the trouble occurred was the Pearce Handicap, in which Broughton was on the winner, Kentucky. On the home turn Not Out lost a good position, and Last Acre also met interference. At the judicial inquiry it was found that Broughton was to blame, and he was suspended, as stated. Results: —
