Misses S. Carle and J. Budd. Wellington, spent the weekend in Masterton.
Mr and Mrs C. C. Callender spent the Labour Day holidays at Paraparaumu Beach.
Mr and Mrs H. H. Daniell, of The Terrace, spent the weekend at Paraparaumu Beach. Miss B. Plimmer, Cole Street, has returned from a short visit to Paraparaumu Beach. Miss L. Hankins, who has been staying at “Kent House,” Colombo Road, left today for Hawke’s Bay. Mr and Mrs- H. M. Sharpies, Island Bay, Wellington, spent the weekend in Masterton as the guests of Mrs R. Latham, Miriam Street. The many friends of Mrs E. T. Boys (nee Patty Price) who has been lying seriously ill at the Palmerston North Hospital for the past three months, will be pleased to know that she is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
The pride of New Zealanders in the exploits of the late Flying Officer Edgar Kain, D.F.C., was evident to his parents, Mr and Mrs R. G. Kain, when a warm welcome was extended to Mrs Kain on her arrival at Auckland by the Pacific Clipper from San Francisco. Mr Kain travelled from Wellington with his married daughter, Mrs S. Southerwood, Christchurch, to meet Mrs Kain, and when the Clipper arrived she was greeted also by the Mayor of Auckland, Mr J. A. C. Allum, and Mrs W. H. Parkes, Mrs E. R. Armitage, Miss Anita Webster and Miss E. Fair, representing the Royal Empire Society. Mrs Parkes presented Mrs Kain with a bouquet. A civic reception was later given in the council chambers at the Town Hall by the Mayor and Mayoress.
