TENNIS SEASON
UNITED CLUB’S OPENING
SATURDAY’S GATHERING.
' WEATHER PREVENTS PLAY.
Although heavy showers of sleet prevented play, the United Lawn Tennis Club held its official opening at the Memorial courts, Dixon Street, on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members and supporters. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. T. Jameson (president) and E. M. Hodder (vicepresident). Following afternoon tea, Mr C. K. Long, captain and a vice-president of the club, declared the club’s season officially opened. He expressed the wish that all members of the club would do their best to see that the season would be as successful as the last one. To the new members he extended a cordial welcome. Those present were impressed with the splendid appearance of the courts after their year’s spell from use. PARK CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING HELD ON SATURDAY. The official opening of the Park Tennis Club was proceeded with, despite the inclement w’eather. Mr L. S. Nicol, president, declared the season officially opened. He commented on the excellent state of the courts. The club captain, Mr R. McEwen, spoke briefly. He expressed the hope that despite war conditions the club would experience a successful season. Afternoon tea was served.
