A working bee of committeemen was busy on the showgrounds on Saturday arranging the appointments for the annual show, which will commence on Wednesday next. Today the committee are engaged in fixing catalogue numbers to the pens in the various classes. The grounds and the appointments have received careful, attention by the society’s caretaker. Considerable painting has been done and the grounds are locking at their best. Many side shows have already made their/gppearance in readiness for the opening day. Although the war is having its effect on almost everything at the present time the society is indeed fortunate that there is very little falling off in the entries as compared with last year. The 1941 show is being eagerly looked forward to and given fine weather the attendance should be good. The night show will be held on Wednesday. A Sharp Frost. There was a sharp frost in Carterton this morning, but fortunately no damage was done to tomato, pumpkin, or potato crops. During the past few days heavy falls of snow have occurred on the high ranges. Gardeners can prepare for more frosts, with perhaps a heavy one tonight. Long Night Dance. A long night dance will be held in the Bandroom, Carterton, on Wednesday night.
