The authorities are seriously concerned over the increasing number of thefts of rationed goods, and also goods on short' supply, from railway yards and sidings, says the ’’Daily Telegraph.” Thousands of pounds worth of foodstuffs, shoes, clothing, cigarette tobacco, whisky and snuff are disappearing almost nightly. It is estimated that nearly 2,000 pairs of silk stockings are being stolen weekly. It is believed that the goods are stored in bombed premises until buyers are abound. The railways have appealed to Scotland Yard for police for special supervision.
