PARTICULARLY FIERCE FIGHTING EFFECTIVE AIR ATTACKS ON ENEMY. DESTRUCTION OF TANKS & LORRIES. (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, October 24. A Russian communique states: “Our troops yesterday were engaged along the entire front. Particularly fierce fighting took place in the Mojaisk and Malo Yaroslavets directions. “Thirty-seven German planes were destroyed on October 22. We lost eleven. On the same day 24 enemy planes were shot down near Moscow. Yesterday four enemy planes were shot down in the Moscow area. “German attacks in the Etojaiva and Malo Yaroslavets directions were repulsed, with heavy losses to the enemy. “The Russian Air Force is dealing heavy blows. One Air Force unit destroyed on October 22 about 100 German tanks, over 250 lorries containing infantry and munitions, and routed a battalion of enemy infantry. “On October 22 and 23 several groups of German planes raided Moscow. The greater part of the enemy planes were
destroyed by anti-aircraft fire and fighters and were unable to reach the capital, but a number broke through and dropped bombs at random on dwelling houses. No industrial or military targets were damaged.” MOVE TO KUIBYSHEV MADE BY,SIR S. CRIPPS. AND MEMBERS OF BRITISH MISSION. (British Official Wireless.) Sir Stafford Cripps (British Ambassador) and members •of the British mission to Moscow have arrived in Kuibyshev and are establishing themselves there.
