SUCCESSFUL DANCE COMPETITION WINNERS. ..... - (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the dance organised by Miss J. Scrimegour, who is to be heartily congratulated on the success of her efforts. The competitions were won by Mr Te Aroatua and partner and Misses L. and H. Robinson. The dance music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra and the M.C. was Mr Mclntosh. Golf. ' The official closing of the local Golf Club which was to have been held on Saturday did not eventuate owing to the poor attendance of members. A medal round was played and was won by S. Thomas. The final of the senior championship has still to be decided. Several members of the local Golf Club intend competing at the tournament at Featherston at the weekend. Personal Items. Mr J. Smart has been appointed first assistant at the local cheese factory. . Messrs R. McDonald and J. Kohai are inmates of the Greytown Hospital. Mr D. Didsbury is staying with his parents in Wellington. Mr Nicolas has returned from Wellington where he attended a Yugoslavia conference. Shearing Operations. Shearing has commenced in this district in real earnest. The bad, weather —there having been rain on successive Fridays for the past five weeks—has materially inconvenienced farmers. Shed hands are difficult to obtain. A Fierce Gale, A fierce northerly gale was experienced here on Tuesday? and accompanied by rain made conditions most unpleasant. Sheets of corrugated iron were torn from buildings and carried a considerable distance. Trees were also uprooted and outhouses damaged.
