GREYTOWN
HOME GUARD PROGRAMME OF TRAINING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The South Wairarapa Battalion is at present carrying out a full programme of training and despite the busy times farmers are at present experiencing the attendances at parades are good. The Battalion Commander visited the Pirinoa units on Wednesday even- 1 ing and the Intelligence Officer instructed the Kahutara unit in map reading. On Saturday afternoon the area instructors will commence a school of instruction at Greytown. In the following week a class will be formed at Featherston for the Lower Valley units. „ „ .. One of the most useful and self reliant units of the South Wairarapa Home Guard is the Traffic Control Platoon. The efficient manner in which they carry out their duties at the battalion manoeuvres is very creditable. At the present time they are taking a course of St. John Ambulance first aid. In an emergency this unit will have the job of traffic control throughout the area. At the present time they are busy raising funds for equipment. Church Service on Sunday. The combined churches will hold their monthly service in the Town Hall on Sunday evening. The Rev. H. Bloomfield, who is to leave Greytown in the near future, will give the address. Red Cross Society’s Dance. The Grey town Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society will hold a dance on Saturday night. The proceeds are in aid of the funds of the society. » Personal. In connection with the ' Greytown Red Cross Society’s home nursing examination, Miss Jean Bower . passe with honours in the junior division.
