The Waingawa, Waiohine and Maungaterere streams are carrying heavy volumes of water. The Waiohine and Maungaterere rivers over flowed their banks in many places. At the Waiohine Bridge the water is crossing the road and at 9 o’clock the rivers were still rising. Swamp road and the low-lying parts of Dalefield are flooded. OBITUARY MR. WILLIAM FENTON. The death of William (“Bill”) Hills Fenton occurred at a private hospital in Ponsonby Road, Auckland, on October 9, after a short illness. He was 68 years of age and leaves a widow and one son, Harry. Many Carterton residents will remember Mr Fenton away back in 1902 when he was manager of the Farmers’ Bacon Company. He was a keen supporter of the Carterton Football Club. He never missed a game and was. always ready to fill a gap in the team. As a member of the Carterton Fire Brigade he did useful service in raising funds to build the present station. His Christy Minstrel Company put on many good shows to raise money for this object with deceased as the star corner man. As a singer, both of comic and sentimental songs, he was always in demand and no smoke concert was complete without deceased and his songs. Mr Harry Fenton, the son, was born in Carterton and served in the Great War. For many years after Mr and Mrs Fenton left the district he resided in Hamilton, where his son still lives. Old residents of this district will regret the passing of this brilliant entertainer. His remains were cremated at the Waikumete Crematorium on Friday, October 10. Personal Items.
