One boatload of survivors has been picked up and a search is proceeding for the others. 1 President Roosevelt said the ship was flying the United States flag. He described the act as one of savagery. The ship had unloaded a cargo at Balboa and was proceeding to the Gold Coast. There appears to be no doubt that the Vessel was torpedoed by a German submarine.
