OBITUARY
MR JAMES ROSSITER. The death occurred yesterday of Mr James Rossiter, of 173 Perry Street, Masterton. The late Mr Rossiter, who was born at Rangiora 79 years ago, spent his early life in the South Island. He was a keen chopping and sawing competitor. He came to the Wairarapa in 1914 and was employed at Waingawa for a number of years, also with the firm of Messrs Judd and Russell. For some time he worked in sawmills in the Hawke’s Bay and Main Trunk districts. He retired seven years ago. Mr Rossiter was predeceased by his wife. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, following a service at 2.30 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MR WILLIAM GEMMELL. The death occurred in Wellington Hospital this morning of Mr William Gemmell, of Tararua Street, Masterton. The late Mr Gemmell, who was 49 years of age, had been in bad health for some years. Born at Alexandra, Otago, he came to the Wairarapa over 30 years ago and was well-known in Masterton, where he was held in high respect by his many friends. In his younger days he was a keen athlete and noted Rugby and hockey player. In the period before the Great War he vzas a member of the Red Star senior and junior football teams. For many years he was associated with the “Daily Times” delivery service and latex- with the “Times-Age” in a similar capacity. Mr Gemmell is survived by a widow and family of four daughters, the only son having been killed in a motor cycle accident in Masterton about twelve months ago. Much sympathy will be extended to Mrs Gemmell and family in their loss. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, following a service at 1.30 p.m., for the Masterton Cemetery.
