WEST SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION. CONSIDERATION NEXT MONTH. Several matters of some importance were dealt with by the Masterton West School Committee at its meeting on Wednesday night. The chairman, Mi’ E. R. Rogers, presided, and there were also present: Messrs ,F. Shearer, W. Batty, E. Tooby, S. C. Haybittie, A. S. Graham, W. J. Campbell and R. S. Graham, besides the headmaster, Mr J. P. Farrell. An apology for absence was received from Mr Baird. Mr W. A. Clarke, Avho has resigned from the position of secretary, Avas thanked for his services and also for his offer to assist the committee at any future date.

Mr R. S. Graham Avas appointed hon. secretary and Mr Haybittie hon. treasurer.

Accounts totalling £3B 9s 3d were passed.

Mr J. Renner waited on the committee regarding a proposal to form a Parents’ Association. The matter was discussed at some length and it Avas agreed to invite parents to meet the committee at the school on November 5 at 8' p.m. Mr Renner was thanked for the interest he had taken in the school and for the ready assistance and work he had given on behalf of the school.

It was reported that the proposals for the improvement of the school grounds were still no further ahead. The Minister of Education and the Wellington Education Board had again been approached regarding the matter but nothing further had been heard about the proposals. Mr Shearer referred to the great amount of Avork Mr Rogers had done in respect to this matter and on behalf of the committee expressed its thanks to Mr Rogers for his effbrts, though they appeared to have been without result.

It was reported that there was every prospect that a dental clinic would be established at the school. The committee had been in touch with the Department of Dental Hygiene and the proposal was progressing satisfactorily. Messrs Haybittie and Farrell, member. of the Dental Clinic Committee, were thanked for their work on behalf of the school. It Avas agreed to hold a function, to be arranged by the headmaster and staff, to enable parents to meet the pupils and teachers at the end of the school year.
