SOLDIERS’ CLUB
OPENED AT TAIHAPE. COMFORTS FOR WAIOURU MEN. The many parents in the Wairarapa district who have sons undergoing Territorial training at Waiouru military camp will be interested to learn that a Fighting Services Club Avas opened at Taihape recently. At the official opening Colonel C. G. Powles, officer commanding Waiouru Camp stated that the club would be a great comfort to soldiers on leave each Saturday. There were then, 4,000 men in camp and the trip to Taihape would be a Avelcome break for them.
The club is being run by a voluntary ladies’ committee. Every comfort is provided for the men. The main hall, which measures 67 feet by 26 feet has a billiard table and a piano, two open fireplaces, and comfortable seating accommodation. There is a well equipped canteen, a reading room and several showers.
