ELECTRIC POWER
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD
REVENUE FOR PAST MONTH.
STOCKS OF MATERIALS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board held at Carterton today the Secretary-Man-ager, Mr George Brown, reported that the revenue in September was £6162, a gain of £127 on last year’s and a loss of £132 on estimate. For the first six months of this financial year the revenue showed a gain of £1639 on that of the previous year or £l4l less than the estimate. During September six new consumers were connected to the system, making the total number of consumers 6250, compared with 6142 twelve months ago. The board, said Mr Brown, was holding reasonably good stocks of both line and installation materials and as arranged previously, a fairly substantial reserve stock was being retained to provide for general maintenance, replacements, reconstruction and any major damage which might be caused by storms and such like. The future was most uncertain.
The chief engineer, Mi’ H, B. Keenan, reported that negotiations were taking place with the district electrical engineer, Public Works Department, to allow the board to shut down the lower Kourarau power station for dam cleaning operations from November 3 to 9.
