GOLF CLUB SEASON OFFICIALLY CLOSED. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Golf Club officially closed the season at the weekend. Miss B. Gregor and S. C. Shedden won the mixed foursome. In the competitions the following were the winners: —Putting: Messrs F. Dewhirst, G. Te Whaiti, B. Feast and J. Feast tied, 19 each. Approaching: H. R. Feast, 1; T. G. R. Ingley, 2; J. C. Feast, 3. Driving, longest: B. Kiernan, 1; J. C. Feast, 2. Driving, aggregate: W. Pope, 1; J. C. Feast, 2; H. G. Carter, 3. Ladies’ putting: Miss Nix, 1; Mrs S. Thompson, 2; Mrs Pope, 3. Ladies’ approaching, seniors: Mrs Pope, 1; Mrs Thompson, 2; juniors, Mrs Kiernan, 1; Miss Wood, 2. Ladies’ driving, seniors: Mrs Thompson, 1; Mrs J. Jury, 2; juniors, Miss. Wood, 1; Mrs Nicholson, 2. RED CROSS SOCIETY ORAL EXAMINATION. Th.e Greytown sub-branch of the Red Cross Society held the oral examination in Home Nursing on Saturday evening. Twenty members were examined. The supervisors .were Mrs Stewart (commandant of the' Wairarapa), Miss Craig (District Nurse), and Miss N. Cocker (Plunket Nurse, Masterton). Mrs Stewart addressed the members on the work of the E.P.S. and Women’s War Service Auxiliary. On behalf of the Greytown branch, Miss E. Gregor expressed thanks to the visitors. On the motion of Mrs H. G. Carter, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs' F. C. Bunny for her valuable assistance in coaching the members. Supper was served by the local members. ENJOYABLE DANCE MEMBER OF NAVY HONOURED. There was a large attendance at a dance held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Friday evening. The • guest of the evening was Telegraphist E. Greathead, of the N.Z. Royal Navy. The Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, conveyed the good wishes of the citizens of Greytown, Mr J. F. Thompson spoke on behalf of the Football Club, and Mr S. Shedden on behalf of the local Returned Soldiers.
The Mayoress, Mrs Horton, presented Mr Greathead ■ with a fountain pen and diary on behalf of the Citizens’ Committee, and Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins, on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union made him a presentation of woollen goods. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss Trim and Mr B. Burch. The music for the dancing was supplied by S. Te Tau’s Orchestra, and Messrs J. Thompson and T. Drysdale played extras. The supper arrangements were in the hands of the ladies’ committee. Personal Items. Private B. Eccles, Foxton, was home for the weekend. 1 Mr T. Sugrue, of the Levin Air Force Camp, spent the weekend at Greytown. Visit to Buchanan Home.
The Greytown Brownies, under their leader, Mrs W. Greathead, paid a visit to Buchanan Home on Saturday morning and entertained the inmates at a concert. The programme submitted was thoroughly enjoyed. At the conclusion the Brownies were entertained at morning tea by the staff.
