AT THE RACES

A COLOURFUL SIGHT. MANY BEAUTIFUL DRESSE& .WORN. “What shall I wear for the Masterton races?’ has probably been the predominant question perplexing the feminine population cf the Wairarapa and further afield for the past few weeks, and despite the fact that the Clerk of the Weather had evidently entered into a conspiracy with the rain clouds on Thursday, feminine punters were well to the fore on both days. On Saturday the lawns and stands of the Opaki racecourse presented a colourful sight to the eye. Smart tailored suits were favoured by many, bright scarves and accessories relieving more sombre shades, whilst those popular checks and stripes were also to be seen in increasing numbers. Those less trustful of the weather were proof against any southerly that might blow, being attired in furs and fur capes over attractive, frockings.

Among those present were Mesdames J. M. James, J. C. Moodie, S. Gill, Esau, Gallagher, F. Brough, J. O. Thomson, Dickens, N. H. James, G.
