MR ERNEST SAMUEL VENNELL.
The death occurred yesterday at the Masterton Hospital of Mr Ernest Samuel Vennell, eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs E. S. Vennell, of Bankview, Te Wharau, after a brief illness. The late Mr Vennell was born at Tauherenikau in 1870 and had resided at Te Wharau for over 50 years. He was a noted rifle shot in his younger days and was very well known in the district. At one time he was a member of the Te Wharau School Committee. Although ill-health had necessitated his retirement from active farm duties a few years ago. he continued to work until a week before his death and his sudden illness was a shock to his many friends in the district. His death will be regretted by a wide circle of friends.
He is survived by his wife, six daughters, Mesdames R. M. Wilton (Masterton), W. Carroll (Taueru), Schormann (Masterton), R. Bannister (Te Wharau), Mosen (Masterton) and H. Wilton (Palmerston North), besides four brothers, Messrs {Reginald (Te Wharau), George (Masterton), Erie. (Te Wharau) and Vai (Featherston), and two sisters, Mesdames M. Blake (Nelson) and Chapman (Napier). There are two great-grandchildren. The funeral took place this afternoon.
