LATE MRS MCKENZIE

LARGELY ATTENDED FUNERAL.

The funeral of the late Mrs Adelaide Elackall McKenzie, took place yesterday afternoon. The large and repiesentative gathering of practically all sections of the community testified to the high esteem in which the deceased lady was held. The Rev. W. F. Stent, Vicar of St. Mark’s Church, conducted the service at the house, and also that at the graveside. The chief mourners were the widower, Mr E. McKenzie, and his brothers and sisters. There was an attendance of over 60 members of the Druids’ Lodge of which deceased’s husband is secretary. Mrs McKenzie herself had done much in the interests of members generally. The pall bearers, all members of the Diuids Order were Bros. R. Smith, P. Reid, F Taplin, W. A. Hart, A. Desmond and Alex Johnson. Many beautiful floral tributes covered the casket and the remainder were conveyed to the cemetery in seven cars. Among the wreaths were those sent from Totara Lodge No. 3, Carterton, Foresters’ and Odd Fellows’ orders, Wairarapa Rugby Football Union, Carterton Borough Council, Carterton Fire Brigade, New Zealand Rugby Football Union', and Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Sixty letters of condolence and 91 telegrams and many condolence cards were received from all parts of New Zealand.

GOLF MEN’S GAMES. The draw for a mixed foursome over 16 holes to be played by members of the Carterton Golf Club will take place in the club house. Members are requested to arrive earlyv. R.S.A. At a meeting of the Carter ton branch the R.SiA. held last 1 evening it was :resolved to hold a social evening of ' members in the Band Room, on October 20. Benefit Dance. Another of the popular and enjoyable series of dances held in the Belvedere Schoolroom will take place on Friday evening. The purpose of the dance is to raise funds for the purchase of parcels for soldiers overseas. Good music, supper .sand floor are assured. Personal. Mrs I. Sexton’s many friends will be pleased to know that she successfully underwent an operation at the Masterton Hospital on Monday. Dalefield Hockey Club. On Wednesday, October 15, the Dalefield Junior Hockey Club will hold a championship dance in the Dalefield Hall. Music will be supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton's orchestra.
