WAGING THE WAR

TO LIMIT OF AUSTRALIA’S CAPACITY MR CURTIN DEFINES LABOUR POLICY ADDRESS IN LAUNCHING LOAN. MR FADDEN’S CORDIAL SUPPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. At a crowded meeting in the City Town Hall last night, the new,Federal Prime Minister, Mr J. W. Curtin, in his first public address, launched a £100,060,000 War and Conversion Loan. He said the Labour Government willingly accepted the obligation and legacy of waging the war to the limit of Australia’s capacity and to a successful conclusion. He knew what Australian people wanted, he continued. They wanted the country to be properly organised. They wanted the Government to do the things requisite for waging and winning the war. On behalf of, the Labour Government he said that would be done, with a full appreciation of what it would mean to their sons and daughters and the glorious heritage handed down to the British Empire. Mr A. W. Fadden, in a similar stirring appeal, called upon the community to present a united front, eschew party politics and subordinate everything to help win the war. The chairman announced that all the bank and financial institutions had signified their intention of converting their loans and, in addition, several had announced their intention of subscribing new money.
