TERRITORIAL SERVICE APPEALS
WAIRARAPA MAN POWER COMMITTEE.
DECISIONS AT YESTERDAY'S SITTINGS.
The Wairarapa Man Power Committee held sittings in Carterton and Featherston following its session in Masterton yesterday, when a number of appeals relating to Territorial service were dealt with. One appeal against service with the Territorial cadre was dismissed.
Mr T. Jordan presided and there were also present: Messrs F. Cole and L. T. Daniell.
An appeal lodged by L. S. Myers and Co., Ltd., against the calling up of Harold W. Jones (formerly of Masterton) for service with the Territorial cadre for the duration of the war was dismissed, the reservist to serve after December 31, 1941.
The following appeals were lodged on the grounds of public interest and under hardship: — The Wairarapa Electric Power Board appealed against the calling up of David George Perrin, clerk. Appeal dismissed, subject to the reservist not being called up prior to January 31, 1942.
Reginald Wilson, farmer, appeal adjourned sine die. An appeal lodged by the Director of National Service and T. McKenzie in respect to the calling up of Robert McKenzie, farm hand, was dismissed. There was no appearance of. the appellant. A similar action was taken in the case of an appeal by Hubert Leonard Quin, presser and labourer, the appellant failing to appear. William Wong appealed against the calling up of James Albert Long, shop assistant. The appeal was adjourned sine die with the proviso that the reservist join the Home Guard within 14 days. The committee dismissed an appeal lodged by Sidney Harold Nichols on behalf of Cyril Dawber, orchardist’s assistant.
Arthur David Hathaway appealed against Roy Arthur Fred Martin being called up. The appeal was dismissed, the reservist to serve after February 28, 1942.
An appeal by E. R. W. Bidwill in respect to Sydney Andrew David Eves, farmer, being called up was adjourned sine die, the reservist being directed to join the Home Guard within 14 days. Appeals on the grounds of public interest were dealt with as follows: — Ivan Gene Hare, cheese factory employee (appeal lodged by the Director of National Service and the Dalefield Dairy Company) dismissed, subject to the reservist not being called up prior to March 31, 1942.
Gordon Lewis Tildesley (appeal lodged by the Dalefield Dairy Company). Appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after April 30, 1942. Allan George Edwards (appeal lodged by Director of National Service and estate late P. H. Edwards), adjourned sine die. Frank Wright, farm hand (Director of National Service and Campbell Smith), appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after May 31, 1942. Alexander Ashworth Burt, farm hand (Director of National Service gnd A. G. Burt), appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after May 31, 1942. Lewis Benjamin Osborne, dairy farm hand (Benjamin Osborne), appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after May 31, 1942. Greme James Cardno, shepherd (Guy John Gillies), appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after February 28, 1942.
Exel Willoughby Junr., shepherd (David Charles Collins), appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after January 31, 1942. Patrick Oswald Skeet, shepherd (John Carne Bidwill), appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after February 28, 1942. Henry Fulcher Harvey, farmer (Director of National Service and Thomas Harvey), adjourned sine die, the reservist to join the Home Guard within 14 days. Arthur Daniel Clarke (Director of National Service and Lagoon Hills Station), appeal dismissed, the reservist to serve after January 31, 1942.
