KENNEL CLUB
SUCCESSFUL SEASON RECORDED ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. ARRANGEMENTS FOR RIBBON PARADE. The annual meeting of the iVairarapa Kennel Club was held last night, the president, Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas, being in the chair. The annual report, Which was adopted, recorded a successful season. The competitions held proved highly successful from every point of view. An excess of expenditure over income of 8d was recorded, after an expenditure of £4 10s on a new trophy. The total value of the club's trophies was placed at £72 18s Id which, with cash and other property, made the club’s assets £ll9 9s 3d. The club’s annual show, held on February 19, was a marked success, both in the quality and number of the exhibits, and in the pleasure of exhibitors and onlookers. At this show the club presented a rose-bowl for competition in the Labrador section. The following trophies were won outright: Wairarapa Kennel Club Cup for best smoothcoated fox terrier, Mr P. W. Willson, Lower Hutt; Wairarapa Kennel Club Cup for best toy, Mrs C. L. Rigden, Christchurch; W.F.C.A.’s Tip Top Cup for best English Setter, Mr Mackenzie Douglas, Masterton. The club would be grateful . to any enthusiast who cared to replace any of these trophies. A ribbon parade was held in the Masterton Park on November 30. 1940. Entries were numerous and the judging excellent, and there was a pleasing attendance of onlookers. By Captain J. C. Holmes’s departure on active service, the club had lost his services on the committee, and he was given leave of absence for the remainder of his term of office. Subsequent losses to the committee were occasioned by the departure of Messrs J. Keedwell and S. McLaughlin to join the Air Force. The hon auditor, Mr W. M. Sellar, to whom the club was indebted for many years’ service, was also in the Air Force. Mrs S. D. Geary had, throughout the season, proved herself an efficient and enthusiastic honorary secretary. Satisfaction was expressed with the work done for the club throughout the year by all members of the committee. The club’s thanks were extended to all voluntary helpers who had freely given their services as judges, stewards- and other- [ wise, especially at the show and the ribbon parade, and to the Press for their courtesy and generous publicity. The meeting decided to hold a ribbon parade in the Masterton Park on November 22, when it was hoped ! that all owners of purebred dogs would ( take the opportunity of exhibiting. f
