FEATHERSTON
RED CROSS SOCIETY CARD TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The weekly euchre tournament was held by the Red Cross Society yesterday afternoon and resulted in the sum of £3 being raised. Miss Eva Card was the winner of the euchre. The competitions were won by Mesdames H. Clark and Bloxam, who handed their prizes back again. Donations of goods were received from Mesdames Sim, Feast, McKenna, Watson, Bloxam, Lawson and Miss Goodrick. Personal. Mrs A. E. Goodwin, who has recently returned from Australia, is visiting Mr and Mrs J. Buck, Underhill Road. South Wairarapa River Board. A meeting of the South Wairarapa River Board was held in the Council Chambers when there were present Messrs R. A. Donald (chairman), R. W. Matthews, T. A. Herrick, A. Linton, W. H. Martin, W. T. Hume. The engineer, Mr H. F. Toogood, was also present. A credit balance of £671 5s 7d was reported. Accounts amounting to £39 Ils were passed for payment. The engineer reported on the proposed shifting of the stopbanks on the eastern side of the Lake. It was resolved to communicate with each property owner* concerned and to approach the Government in regard to obtaining a subsidy for the proposed work.
The engineer read a comprehensive report in connection with tlie proposed draining of the Wairarapa Lake area which was adopted for printing, subject to the values of the lands in the betterment section being approved by the land valuer. It was resolved to recommend Mr H. F. Toogood’s appointment to the River Board’s Control Committee.
