ARCTIC PATROL

TWELVE THOUSAND MILE INSPECTION. OTTAWA. Major D. L. McKeand, of the Canadian Department of Mines and Resources, is the officer in charge of the annual Eastern Arctic Patrol aboard the veteran supply ship of the Canadian Arctic, the Nascopie. This year Major McKeand will have two rather unusual jobs to perform on his 12,000-mile inspection tour of Canada’s great northern territories. ' He will carry with him the blanks necessary for the taking of the eighth decennial census in that part of Canada, and he will also carry 10,000 dollars worth of Victory bonds to sell in that region, which covers an estimated 1,000,000 square miles of territory. The population of that great Arctic district through which the Nascopie will travel is about 6,000, but only between 150 and 200 of these arc white. Major McKeand is taking" with him a Victory Loan flag emblazoned with the Torch of Victory, which will be set up wherever and whenever he sells Victory bonds. This will be Major McKeand’s tenth trip into the white lands of the Arctic. As in past years, the Nascopie will have on her passenger list doctors, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, radio operators, etc.
