OPAKI

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The October meeting of the ,Opaki Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs Beetham. Mrs Wingate, vice-president, presided. Delegates for the half-yearly meeting of the Wairarapa Federation, to be held at Carterton on Friday, October 17, were appointed, Miss lorns to report and Mrs Marchbanks to vote. Mrs Dagg gave a popular demonstration on craft work, using felt hats. A collection was taken up for the Makogai lepers. - The roll call —duties a farmer expects of his wife—was well responded to and caused much amusement. The monthly competition results were: —Sewing, Mrs Rayner 1, Miss lorns 2; cooking, Mrs Rayner 1, Mrs Buick and Miss lorns (equal) 2; best bloom, Mrs Rayner 1, Mrs Malmo and Mrs Thomson (equal) 2, Mrs Buick 3. The November meeting will be held at Mrs Wingate’s home, when the competitions will be sewing, something new from something old; cooking, queen cakes; and best bloom. The roll call will be a household hint. Afternoon tea was served, and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
