MASTERTON RACES
4 MEETING TO OPEN ON THURSDAY ACCEPTANCES CLOSE TONIGHT. REHANDICAPS DECLARED. (By “The Grafter.”) First day acceptances for the Masterton Racing Club’s meeting on Thursday and Saturday will close at 9 o’clock tonight with the secretary (Mr N. H. James). Indications point to the meeting being the most successful recorded in the history of the club. Mr H. Coyle has declared the following rehandicaps for the first day of the meeting:— Solway Handicap: Spliced 71bs., making 8.11. Masterton Handicap: Master Cyklon, 31bs„ making 7.9. WORK AT OPAKI. LOCAL HORSES VERY FIT. Owing to the wet conditions at Trentham W. J. Bromby’s team for the meeting arrived at Opaki on Saturday. This young trainer, who was for some time associated with T. R. George, now has charge of the horses owned by Messrs Barrell and Evans. Bromby has brought three young horses—Royal Counsellor, Gold Dip and Gay Dancer —and all appear to be very fit. The tracks at Opaki are a little heavy after the recent heavy rain but with a day or two of fine weather they will be in good condition for Thursday. The outside of the course proper was used yesterday by local trainers who took full advantage of it to enable their entries to show their paces. Majority is striding out in great style.
Metonymy, Cheerful Lady, .White Rajah, Te Awe Awe and Mansura are in good fettle. All the locally-trained horses appear to be very fit and will no doubt give an excellent account of themselves on their own course on Thursday.
