It was stated by the police that he had been convicted of a similar offence last year and had been prohibited from holding a licence for a period of five years. “I think the Army should be told that where a person has been gaoled and has had two or three convictions for being intoxicated While in charge of a car, he should have no warrant to drive anything on the reads,” said the Magistrate. “They can let him drive round the camp if they like.” After medical evidence had been heard the Magistrate dismissed the charge of intoxication and the further charge of driving without a licence. The Magistrate told the police that they should get in touch with the Transport Department and ask why the licence was issued, in view of the Court's previous disqualification.
