FINAL KORERO
MASTERTON SAVAGE CLUB FLOOR MEMBERS ENTERTAIN THE COUNCIL. SATURDAY NIGHT'S FUNCTION. The largest attendance of the season saw the floor members of the Masterton Savage Club reverse normal proceedings at Saturday night’s korero by entertaining the club council right royally. An amusing installation placed Savage Connell in the box instead of Big Chief Price, and the orchestra, under the conductorship of Savage C. W. Kerry, rendered “The Volga Boat Song.” A song by Savage Mexted was succeeded by Savaged Whiting and Youngquest in an amusing sketch, “George and the Dragon.” Savage Cottle and Co. presented an excellent instrumental quartette. At 9 p.m. one minute’s silence was followed by “There’ll Always be an England.” Well received songs by Savage J. Watson and a sketch “Advice Or —?” by Savages Clarke, Robertson, Russell and Creighton preceded two splendid violin solos from Savage J. Gallagher. Paleface W. D. McLachlan gave a talk on his impressions of Greece and Crete and Savage J. Connell brought the first half to a close with two items.
At kai time the toast of the council was proposed by Savage J. Connell and answered by Big Chief F. Price; that of “The Visitors” proposed by Savage S J. Barber was answered by Lieut. W. L. Free. Past Chief J. A. Kennedy read a letter explaining how Savage J. B. McPherson had been reported missing in Greece, although there was no news yet of his whereabouts
Saxaphone solos by Savage W. Ashworth and pleasing songs by Savage D. Couper preceded an hilarious scenario by Savages H. Smith, C. Malmo, G. Whiting, E. Buckeridge, N. Creighton, E. Youngquest and “Sally.” Following the orchestra’s “Serenata” (Toselli) and a military march, the programme ended with a special closing ode and the singing of the National Anthem.
