WELFARE LEAGUE

MEETING IN MASTERTON. HELD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon. Miss M. Kummer presided. There were also present: Mesdames S. Fletcher, G. H. Collie, H. P. Harrison, S. J. Munn, T. F. Watson, A. Henderson, E. J. Brown, A. Andrew, J. B. Carruthers, S. N. Kilgour, Misses Wilson, and Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames H. E. Pither, F. Reynolds, S. L. P. Free, W. L. Hunter, F. C. Daniell, A. W. McKenzie, S. McCracken, and the Misses Cameron and Guild. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs R. C. Drummond in the death of her cousin, Dr. Adams (Wellington), and to Mesdames J. M. Coradine and A. W. McKenzie in their illnesses. Letters of appreciation were received from Dr. N. 11. Prior for the Lear gue’s expression of sympathy in the death of his mother and from a member in connection with her recent illness. A letter was received from the Matron of the Grey town Hospital confirming October 8 as the date for a visit by the League to the Buchanan Home. The matter of transport and entertainment was left in the hands of Miss Kummer. Those who wish to donate- cakes, etc., are asked to leave them at Mr R. Page’s shop on the same morning as the visit to the Home. Mrs Carruthers reported on a hamper which would be sent to the A.N.A. Club, Wellington, this month. A letter of appreciation was received from the Cafeteria Committee of the club. Mrs Fletcher reported that two visits had been paid to the Masterton Hospital last month. The usual teas had been dispensed in Ward 6. Fruit, flowers and literature had been distributed in other wards. Mesdames T. F. Watson, R. C. Drummond, and G. H. Collie were appointed a visiting committee for October 14 and October 28. A collection taken up for the Makogai Leper Fund resulted in a good sum being raised.
