MASTERTON BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Temperance Union held at the home of the president, Miss Tankersley presided. Mrs Jansen led the devotions. The Temperance Fact was presented as follows: —“The cost of alcohol in human life far exceeds that of war and the victims of alcoholism do not die out. z They drag miserably through a sick life and transmit their decay to following generations.” —(Professor T. G. Masaryk, late president Czechoslovakia). Miss Jackson rendered two songs. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs N. Miller and Miss Tankersley. Mrs T. R. Barrer addressed the meeting on the work of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union with particular reference to the housekeeping emergency scheme.
