ARTILLERY ACTION
ENEMY SUFFERS LOSSES AT TOBRUK ACTIVITY ON LIBYAN FRONTIER. — FEW BOMBS DROPPED ON CYPRUS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) RUGBY, October 2. A Cairo communique states: “Although the dust storm in Libya has continued, it abated yesterday. Our artillery effectively engaged enemy positions facing the south-west sector of the Tobruk defences, causing casualties and forcing the enemy to withdraw. “In the frontier area, our patrols are continuing their aggressive activities.” A message from Nicosia (Cyprus) states that enemy aircraft crossed the Cyprus coast on Thursday. A few bombs were dropped in open country in the central part of the island. No damage was done and there were no casualties.
