HOME GUARD

MARCH THROUGH QUEEN STREET SPECIALIST PLATOONS FORMED ARMY INTELLIGENCE. There was a large muster at last night’s parade of the town companies of the Home Guard. In connection with the battalion’s recruiting week, a march was held through Queen Street headed by the Pipe Band. There were many favourable comments on the turnout of the companies concerned. There has been a fair response to the request for recruits, although more are still required, and there can be no doubt that there are many men who have so far not joined up who should be doing their share of the work- The flow of new recruits -is compensating for the drafting of specially selected men from the infantry companies to the specialist platoons. A specialist platoon which has recently been formed and which already bids fair to rank as one of the keenest units is the Army Intelligence platoon. This consists of sections of observers, snipers and scouts respectively and is under the command, of Captain J. V. Dolan, D. 5.0., who has had long experience in the Intelligence Department of the British Army. The Army Intelligence is the nerve centre of the military organisation and this platoon should prove a very valuable asset in the future development of the Battalion. Captain Dolan states that the training so far shows that the platoon comprises excellent material for the particular job.
