The Town Clerk, Mr G. T. O(Hara Smith, is attending a meeting of the executive of the Town Clerk’s Institute in Palmerston North tomorrow. Captain W. E. Munday, N.Z.T.S., has been appointed General Staff Officer 3 (Signals) of the Southern Military District. He will act in that capacity in addition to carrying out his training duties at Burnham camp. A cablegram has been received in Wellington reporting the death in Melbourne of Mr C. A. Norris, C.8.E., F.1.A., general manager and actuary of the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia, Ltd. Mr Norris, who was 66 years of age, had spent 50 years in the -service of the association, being appointed general manager and actuary in 1935. Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., who has been associated with the Wellington Magistrate’s Court for about six years, has been appointed senior Stipendiary Magistrate in Auckland, and he is expected to take up his duties there within a fortnight. He will succeed Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., who retired a few months ago. Mr Luxford was formerly a prominent member of the legal profession in Auckland. By the death of Mr Francis Brady, which occurred on Wednesday in Wellington at the age of 86, New Zealand has lost another of her -pioneers. Mr Brady was brought to New Zealand from Australia by his parents when he was six months old. His father was a retired official of the Indian Civil Service who was drowned in a yachting accident in Manukau Harbour. His mother was first matron and dispenser at the Auckland Hospital. Mr Brady had a very adventurous career in the early days of New Zealand. During the Hau Hau disturbance he was recruited at Gisborne for Von Tempsky’s forces.
