BRITISH PATROLS
HEAVY ENEMY FIRE DRAWN. IN NORTH AFRICA PROGRESS IN ABYSSINIA. ON THE WAY TO GONDAR. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 10.20 a.m.) RUGBY, October 1. British patrols in North Africa are stated to have drawn very heavy artillery fire from the enemy. In Abyssinia the repair of demolitions, on the road from Wolchefit to Debarech, is progressing. Debarech, which is in no man’s land on the way to Gondar, and which has been the scene of encounters with the enemy, is now in process of being occupied. DUST STORMS STILL LIMITING ACTIVITY AT TOBRUK. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) RUGBY, October 1. A. Cairo communique states: “A dust storm. Which in intensity around Tobruk yesterday, again interfered with all ground activities. “There is no change in the frontier area.”
