RED CROSS SOCIETY
COUNTRY DISTRICTS. MEETING OF SUB-CENTRE. A special meeting of the Country Districts Cub-Centre of the Red Cross Society was held yesterday in the Country Women’s Club to discuss the spending of the money raised (£200) at the shop day on September’ 24. The meeting decided that a large sum be donated to the Nurse Matthew’s Fund, and that an amount be set aside for V.A.D. equipment and parcels for nurses serving overseas. A large number of grey blankets are to be purchased for prisoners of war parcels and also khaki wool for pullovers which are to be included in the parcels. The Sewing Circle was granted an amount to be used for providing and equiping an emergency cupboard. Members were asked to make enquiries in regard to local soldiers who were prisoners of war. Members expressed appreciation of the fact that 10 of the Red Cross Society’s V.A. girls were among those selected to form a guard of honour for the Governor-General and Lady Newall at the Masterton Hospital.
