OWEN GUN
A REMARKABLE WEAPON. PRODUCTION ARRANGEMENTS IN AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright, MELBOURNE, September 30. Arrangements have been made for the manufacture of the first instalment of between 1000 and 1500 Owen (tommy) guns, declared the Minister of Munition, Senator Mcßride, today. The Owen gun has only three move-
able parts, compared with 20 in the Thompson sub-machinegun. The rate of fire is so rapid that the ear cannot distinguish between the explosions, while the magazine and barrel can be changed in a split second. Senator Mcßride said the Owen gun. which might prove Australia’s biggest contribution to inventions during this war. possessed many features which had been sought for years by leading inventors in Britain, the United States and Germany, and might even revolutionise many aspects of home defence.
