BOMBING OF REICH

OUTCLASSING ALL ATTACKS ON BRITAIN AIR MINISTER’S GRIM PROMISE ' EFFECT OF FIGHTER SWEEPS. BEST NAZI PLANES PINNED DOWN IN WEST. LONDON, October 1. Britain in the coming month will e drop much heavier loads of bombs on Germany than Germany has ever dropped on this country. Sir Archibald Sinclair, Air Minister, promised this tonight. “Our plans are made, our air crews are ready, so roll out the bombers,” he said. Sir Archibald Sinclair said the bombers would prepare the way for the advance of the Allied armies into Germany. By hastening the production of heavy bombers, they would hasten the day of victory. He gave a warning that there might be heavy raids on Britain this winter; They might be heavier than those experienced last year. Britain’s offensive sweeps over Northern France, he said, had pinned down large forces of German fighters, which otherwise would have been used against Russia. Tne Germans had kept the best aircraft and the best pilots in the west. From February 1 this year up to today these sweeps had cost us 428 fighters and 374 pilots. They had destroyed 658 enemy fighters.

This afternoon R.A.F. fighters destroyed two enemy fighters without loss to themselves. Two of our fighters are missing during a Channel patrol later in the day.
