PARENTS’ NIGHT
ENJOYABLE GATHERING INTER-HOUSE ASSOCIATION. SERVICES ACKNOWLEDGED. Last evening over one hundred and fifty interhouse girls and their parents were entertained at a most enjoyable social gathering by the committee of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association. The Y.M.C.A. gymnasium gallery was packed when the first item on the programme —two games of indoor basketball —was commenced. The teams taking part in the games were J. R. McKenzies, Rangers, W.F.C.A. and Lancers. The first game was won by McKenzies, who scored 14 points to Rangers 12. The second game, which was also very evenly contested, was won by Lancers, who scored 8 points to W.F.C.A.’s 7. After these games the parents and girls assembled in the games hall, where members of the interhouse girls' choir entertained those present with a series of sea chanties which were followed by a duet by Misses Aileen Daily and Barbara Hair, a Pirate Ballet by the ballet girls, solos by Miss Bannister, duets by Miss M. Fulton and Miss A. Bilderbeck, and a tap dance duo by Misses O. Curry and N. McMullen. During the supper interval the chairman of the association explained to the parents that the gathering had I been arranged in appreciation of the | encouragement given to their girls in . the interests of the association. Mr G. Masters, who replied on behalf of the parents, said how grateful the parents were to have had the opportunity of associating with an energetic committee thaUhad done so much for the physical well-being of the young people of Masterton. On behalf of the Y.M.C.A. directors heexpressed thanks for the interest the Interhouse Committee and the girls themselves had shown in the Y.M.C.A. The thanks of the association were also extended to Mi’ Gaze, the Y.M.C.A. secretary, for the help he had been to the association. Presentations were made to Mrs Miller Hope and Mrs Rich for the assistance they had given to the association throughout the year, and especially during the rehearsals for the concert. Competitions during the evening were won by Miss P. Pratt and Mi’ G. Bilderbeck. The remainder of the time was spent in dancing to the music played by Mr B. Filer. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and God Save, the King brought the gathering to a close.
