ST. MATTHEW’S CLUB MEETING IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT. BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR COMING SEASON. The Venerable Archdeacon E. J> Rich presided over a meeting of the St. Matthew’s Tennis Club held in the Parish Hall, Masterton, last night. It was reported that prospects for the coming season were particularly bright in that a large number of young people had intimated that they would join up. It was decided to officially open the season on Saturday, October 11, when members and their friends would be invited to attend. The secretary was instructed to send a letter to other clubs inviting a representative to attend. It was agreed to hold a Yankee tournament.
After a brief discussion it was resolved to fix the subscription at 5s per member, senior or junior. In view of the small subscription it was anticipated that there would be a substantial increase in membership. Officers were appointed for the ensuing year as follows:—Patron, Mr F. H. Dunderdale; president, Archdeacon Rich; vice-presidents, the Revs. V. W. Joblin and H. Taepa; hon. secretarytreasurer, Miss B. Judd; club captain, Mr K. Chapman; committee, Misses J. Yelverton, V. Rich and C. Lambert; Messrs J. Strang, C. J. Carle and K. Chapman. ■ Several of those present referred to the fact that the courts were being used by unauthorised persons. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the committee with a view to taking action. ■■. .
