VETERINARY HANDBOOK
DEALING WITH NEW ZEALAND CONDITIONS. AN INVALUABLE PUBLICATION. Specially written for farmers by James Gibb Johnson, “The New Zealand. Veterinary Handbook,” should fill a long-felt want among primary producers. Compact and simply-worded yet comprehensive in its scope, the handbook sets out. in clear terms, all that the average farmer is likely to want to know relating to stock diseases and troubles. In each section cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, dogs and general --the various diseases, etc., are arranged in. alphabetical order and at the head of each entry, an excellent summary is given of the essential points necessary for treating the disease in question. In the general section information is given on such matters as administering medicines, antidotes to. poisons, control of parasites, the value of minerals. taking an animal’s temperature and telling its age and details are given also of what is required for a vetinerary first aid outfit. The volume which is well bound and produced contains 264 pages. Its author, who. incidentally, was formerly a resident of Masterton, has spent over 30 years in the Livestock Division of the Department of Agriculture and has always been a keen student of veterinary science. In addition the publication has been edited and supervised by a qualified veterinary surgeon. The handbook is published by the New Zealand “Dairy Exporter” Co., Wellington, and provision is made for additional annual supplements for the next five years. Farmers should find this handbook an invaluable one, especially as it is claimed that hitherto no comprehensive veterinary handbook of its kind, specially written for New Zealand conditions, has been obtainable.
