WELCOME HOME
TO RETURNED SOLDIER. GATHERING AT WAINGAWA. A very pleasant time was spent recently at the home of Mr and Mrs S. O’Connor, Waingawa, when a welcome home was extended to Mr T. Berney, of Lower Hutt, who has just returned from Greece and Crete. Mr B. Olsen, who has been in Masterton for some time, was also a guest of .honour. Mr S. O’Connor proposed the health of Mr Berney. expressing sympathy with him in his illness. He presented him with a well-filled purse. Mr O'Connor also wished Mr Olson, who will be leaving shortly for Port Chalmers the best of luck in the future. The toast was enthusiastically honoured. Among the large number of people present wore Mr and Mrs J. Corke (Waingawa), Mr' and Mrs B. Corke Junr., Mr and Mrs Featherstone (Lower Hutt), Mr F. Wilson Junr., Mr and Mrs C. Anderson, Mr and Mrs T. Taylor, Misses O’Sullivan, Mr J. O’Connor, Mr Cox (Homewood), Mrs Forester, Mr J. Lannigan, Misses Hopkins (Carterton), Mrs and Miss Carrig, Misses H. and O. Sutherland, P. Ireland, Mr and Mrs H. Berney (Carterton), and Mr T. Whittaker. The joint hostesses for the gathering were Mrs J. Wilson and Mrs S. O'Connor.
