OPAKI RIFLE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING LAST NIGHT. ACTIVITIES TO CONTINUE. At the annual meeting of the Mas-terton-Opaki Rille Club held in Masterton last night a decision was made to carry on with the club's activities as long as possible. It was stressed that the training of members of the Horne Guard made the work of the club more important than ever. Mr H. H. Mawley presided over a good attendance of members, among whom were Messrs G. Hyde, A. Chapman and R. J. King, old members of the club. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs P. Russell, E. M. Wrigley, J. W. Whiteman, W. N. Kummer and D. Richards.

Referring to Home Guard activities Mr Mawley stated that the Home Guard was deriving great benefit from members of the club who were acting as instructors.

A motion moved by Mr V. E. Donald that a restricted programme of shooting be held to keep the club's equipment in order so-that the military authorities could use the range, was carried.

It. was decided to hold two shoots before Christmas, two after Christmas and one championship shoot. The secretary, Mr J. Bouzaid, who intimated that he did not seek re-elec-tion, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services.

The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr J. McKenzie Senr.; president, Mr H. H. Mawley; deputy presidents, Messrs V. E. Donald and R. J. King; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Robertson, M.P., A. McDonald, H. G. Williams, P. Borthwick, Captain J. C. Holmes, Messrs A. W. Chapman, J. E. MeV. Calwell, W. N. Kummer, F. Bolton, V. E. Donald, H. B. Maunsell, C. G. Monro, C. A. Whiteman, T. A. Brown, G. Laing, G. Shaw, D. Donald, G. 11. Murdock and W. James. Members serving overseas. Messrs J. W. Curtin, H. K. Smith, H. V. Donald. K. McCalmont, and B. R. Jenkins were also elected vice-presidents; hon. se-cretary-treasurer, Mi- R. J. King; delegates to the Wairarapa Association, Messrs Mawley and King. A vote of thanks was accorded the Press, and to Messrs V. E. Donald, G. Hyde and A. W. Chapman for donations.
